Clinique's Happy
...to say that I am a video game player or junkie, however you see fit, from way back in the days of Atari and Coleco. And I am proud to say I was a girl who loved, and still do, to play video games. Yes, we had these consoles in our home (we being my siblings, cousins and I) and we played them until we couldn't play them any more. The games at that time may not come in any comparison to the games of today , but it's a part of my life that always brings a smile to my face.
Recently I was talking to a friend about the anticipation of the PS3 and how I feel that the price was a little steep for what I would buy to enjoy myself during the little time I'm ever home. Not amazingly, he agreed. But then soon afterwards I heard others actually debating on which system was better, Xbox or Playstation. I returned to my work area and pondered over the discussion I had just heard and a thought occured to me. What happen to the days when everyone, and I mean everyone, was excited about any new console that was coming out?
I remember when the kids who didn't have a console would come over and anticipate when it was their turn to play Asteroids. No one ever thought about a better console, they were just thinking, "I hope I get a turn". Then we later owned the NES, Sega Genesis, Super NES, Playstation, Ninendo 64 (yes we did own one), Sega Dreamcast (yes I owned one), then came the PS2. It was here when it all took a big turn.
Personally, I like both systems (Xbox and PS) and if I could afford it, I would have a rig setup where each would be hooked to a big screen television. But I do try to spend my money wisely. My own posessions are the handheld games. I own a PSP, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance Sp, Game Boy Micro, and a DS Lite. And though I get responses from people who are amazed at how many systems I own, I tell them I play them all and I love it.
Like I said, I am a gamer from way back. When we use to become so excited about playing our games in our living room an a crappy televison or saving our money to go to the arcade to play Donkey Kong, Ms Pac Man, Millipede, I can go on. I don't own a big game console today, mainly because of work, school, and my screenwriting. I do have friends who own either the Xbox/Xbox 360 or a PS2 and I can play them whenever I want. But I think there is one game console I'll purchase. When it hits the market I'll be there to buy a Nintendo Wii. Why, because Nintendo is not fighting to be number one or even two, they just want to make a gaming console we can all enjoy and love playing. Wow, this sounds pretty much like when I was a kid.
...way home from work I decided to stop at Chicago Comics and check out some new titles. I was actually looking for Witchblade and Tomb Raider, when I came across a comic book that really caught my eye. It's called "LOCAL" and it's by Brian Wood and Ryan Kelly. I was only able to purchase the first three books but I was left with wanting more.
Most mainstream comics are based on heroes or heroines and I have no problem with that. But sometimes the comics that are more about actual life, usually end up at the back of the store on the small press shelves. Understandable, it's all about making money with the big names. The only problem is that you may miss out on something that's good. I almost did such a thing. When I scanned the big names such as Marvel, Top Cow, DC, ...etc, I was so overwhelmed and somewhat lost because of the many stories for the same character, I began to lose interest at the end of my scanning, I was determined at that point to leave. Instead, I decided to walk to the back of the store, and there it was, "LOCAL". As the creator Brian Wood has stated in the first issue:
"LOCAL, simply put, is a series of short stories about people and the places they live in."
As simple as that, but as heartwarming as hearing old childhood stories from a relative. The stories are compelling and moralistic in their own way. Each issue takes place in a different city. The first issues' location was Portland, Or, the second issue in Minneapolis, MN, and the third in Richmond VA. Another interesting note is that at the end of the issue, the writers write a little something about their take on the story or just a little something that's related, or maybe they write about their creative process. PLUS, they encourage readers to send in photos and to write a little something about the places they live. They may even print it in upcoming issues or on their blog. One other fact that really appealed to me is where this story premise can take you. Anywhere in the U S of A. Any small town, big city, wherever and the series 1st issue starts in 1994 with the others progressing a year at a time per issue.
I have enjoyed all three books, LOCAL #1: ten thousand thoughts per second, LOCAL #2:"the polaroid boyfriend", and LOCAL #3: "theories and defenses". I am really looking forward to buying the next issue LOCAL #4: "The Two Brothers". Now I need to learn more about the comic book stores in Chicago and Chicagoland. Hey this actually might be fun.
I know there are those of you who do not like comics or who just never got into reading any. So I will classify LOCAL in the catagory of "comics for people who hate or never read comics but may enjoy this one" list. Give "LOCAL" a read and let me know what you think.
Side note: Check out Comic Book Database when searching for information about your favorite comic book heroes/heroines. Or maybe your favorite story.
...been fascinated with the Asian and Oriental cultures. I love most of the foods that come from these parts of the world and at times preferred it over many meals. Okay, pizza will always win out, I'm a Chicagoan. Now I should make known that I am not one who experiments with weird foods, weird in relation to what we Americans eat. I say this because it is quite possible that people in other parts of the world may consider what we eat as being weird also. Anyway, I am not one who eats out at restaurants often either, but when I do I will not settle for anything except something I absolutely crave. I will say that I love Japanese food the most, but I do have a confession. I have not eaten, yes, sushi. I have eaten California rolls, vegetable rolls, even grab rolls, and I love it. But I have not eaten real sushi. My friend call those other so called sushi dishes jokes rapped in seaweed. I think she always wanted to be a comedian. Well, I have been fearful of trying them out. I guess it's the thought of eating raw fish. I have read many books, not necessarily reading about sushi but the subject happen to be there, that say it's a healthy dish. So now my quest is to find the best sushi place in Chicago.
I came across this website, Sushi Eating How To, that helps you when it comes time to take the plunge. I think if sushi is new to you, you should check this website out. It really seems helpful.
Today I decided to eat Thai and I ate at this awesome little place. It's called Duck Walk. I really enjoyed the dish I had which was a Pepper & Garlic entree. You had a choice between chicken and beef, I chose chicken. I recommend that you try it out. It's small but very quaint and the waiter and waitress are very nice. Eat up.
What was the last wedding you went to? Were you in the wedding?
The last wedding I attended was a co-workers. I wasn't in it but it was very rememorable because they had a guy in a kilt play the bagpipes after they said their vows and was exiting the church. It was awesome.
...cell phone is really awesome. I have had it for about 2-3 weeks now and I am really happy. The one thing I am very happy about is the battery life. My God compared to my Motorola Razr from Verizon, the battery is just totally awesome. I left early for work on Monday because of feeling ill and reached home around 2:00 pm and the first thing I did was throw my phone on my desk. It had 4 bars which indicates a full charge. I went to bed right away and didn't touch my phone until Wednesday morning when I headed for work. I thought to myself the cell would probably turn off before I get to work where I would plug it up to charge. When I got to my job I proceeded to plug the cellphone for charging and realized it had 2 bars indicating it was half charged. I was so impressed I told everyone I could about my astonishment. Now this may seem minute to those of you who may possess better quality phones but as a Verizon customer I was really pleased. I will be honest and say that the camera on the Razr is so much better than the Chocolate
Chocolate
but for someone who prefers a candybar cell phone, I can't complain. I'll admit it's taking a little getting use to the Touch Sensative Keys and having the flatness of the Razr was simply awesome. But as far as menus, the screen, Ringtone options (I actually got a normal ringer) and not having drops every 5 minutes, the Chocolate has turned out to be the one for me. Plus it's a cool looking cell phone. This means a lot considering Verizon normally have sh%tty phones. Pardon me.
Now to be fair as far as my cell phone usage, I am always looking for a good phone and if one is introduced and I like it I will go for it. So for now the Chocolate has stopped me in my tracks. But who knows what's coming out next.
Hahahahaha
Update: I have come to notice that even though the battery life of the Chocolate can last up to 3-4 days even if using the browser and playing games, when you play music it takes away at least a day.
...to post a project here. I have been getting ready for school and it really has kept me busy. I haven't even posted on my flickr account that much lately and I'm still trying to decide what to use this blog for. I have a Livejournal blog which I try to rant about things, so maybe this'll be my everyday life journal. Also I am preparing to take an exam for another position at my job for Engineer Technician III. Right now I'm a Laboratory Technician II. It'll be different but it'll be more office orientated which is what I am looking for. Anyway here's a photo of my school and guess what, I believe I only have two more semesters to go, including this fall semester. Thank God.
If you had a band, what would you call yourselves?

...who have discovered my Vox blog. This is my first post and I am still trying to figure out what I will use it for. I have two other blogs, my main webpage
and my Livejornal webpage.
A friend, Shawn (thanks Shawn), gave me an invite and I thought I would give it a try. Plus I have been hearing so much about it, the first time from Inside the Net. I was thinking I may use it to put excerpts of my book that I am writing and maybe even my screenplays. Or maybe I'll use it for my new paintings (still an amatuer). Or I can use it for my projects that I want to do, especially after looking at Make magazine and the Make vidcast. I haven't made up my mind yet, but I think I am leaning towards the project idea. Well, we'll see and hopefully I'll get some people interested in checking out my new blog. It's best not to overwhelm people who are fairly new to the computer. They might explode.
